Defender against evil
His name is a question: Who is like God? Scripture calls him the great prince who stands guard over God's people (Daniel 12:1) and shows him leading heaven's armies against the dragon (Revelation 12:7). Guardians of the pilgrim road
Founded in Jerusalem around 1119 as the Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ, the Templars bound themselves by vows of poverty, chastity and obedience and kept watch over Christian pilgrims on the dangerous roads to the holy places. Their red cross marked men who had given their lives to Christ. The motto long tied to their order comes from Psalm 115: Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory.
